Patent WO 2017/118588 A1
Light encoded. Quantum-secured.
NABUSCO transmits data by permuting spectral colours — using up to 200 colours in a single fibre optic cable. Combined with Quantum Key Distribution, it creates the most eavesdrop-proof communication physics allows.
Challenge
The Problem
Six real crises — simultaneously. And none of them are hypothetical.
Data Explosion
Global data volume doubles every 18 months. By 2027, over 180 zettabytes will be generated annually — as much as in the entire last 30 years of computing history combined. Today's fibre-optic networks cannot scale.
RSA Is Broken
RSA-2048 — the cryptographic foundation of banks, governments and clouds — can be cracked in hours by a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. IBM, Google and state programmes are working to concrete timelines.
Invisible Eavesdropping
In classical IP networks, eavesdropping leaves no trace. Man-in-the-middle, rogue nodes, deep packet inspection — all technically trivial. Sender and receiver never learn that someone was reading along.
Harvest Now, Decrypt Later
State actors and intelligence agencies are today mass-collecting encrypted communications — without immediate decryption. The goal: once quantum computers mature, stored data from recent years will be retroactively decrypted.
Bandwidth Wall
Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is hitting the Shannon limit: more bits on the same fibre are physically impossible without fundamentally new coding. The global internet backbone is not growing fast enough.
Critical Infrastructure
Power, water, healthcare, finance — all completely dependent on digital communication. A coordinated attack on backbone connections can destabilise entire societies within hours.
"The attack on today's encryption is not hypothetical — it is planned. State actors have concrete timelines."
Experts at the NSA, NIST and BSI already recommend migrating to quantum-resistant methods today — because the point of cryptographic break is no longer a question of if, but when.
Solution
NABUSCO Explained
Information is encoded in the order — not the signal
The Road Metaphor
Classical: a road with two lanes (0 and 1). NABUSCO: 200 differently coloured cars — the information lies in the order they travel. Red-Green-Blue means "A".
Capacity Advantage
million
billion
billion
Same sequence length (3) — classical vs. NABUSCO
With 200 spectral colours, just 3 colours in sequence already yield 7.88 million unique permutations — more than enough for all German words (≈ 400,000). With 4 colours, capacity grows to 1.55 billion; with 5, to 306 billion. Every sentence ever spoken by humanity could be uniquely encoded — on a single fibre-optic cable.
Data Channel
Encrypted data as classical binary code over conventional networks
Quantum Channel
Entangled photons carry the key via fibre optic or free-space laser
